Many hospitals do not have a strategy for collaborating with physicians. All too often these hospitals wake up one day to discover that several key physicians are planning to invest in a significant venture without them, possibly with millions of revenue dollars at risk. Salient, therefore, encourages hospitals to have a strategy for integrating with physicians. The creation and adoption of a comprehensive plan will provide a roadmap to physician collaboration, and will position the hospital to strategically respond – rather than to react – to physicians’ entrepreneurial leanings.
The development of an integration strategy contemplates various joint venture models which may be applied to the clinical services under consideration, as illustrated below:
INTEGRATION MODELS
Compensation Arrangements
Clinical Co-Management Agreements
Equipment Leasing Models
Real Estate Partnerships
Employment Arrangements
“Hospital-Based” Models
Whole Hospital Joint Ventures
|
CLINICAL SERVICES
Surgery Centers
Cardiac Centers
G.I. Labs

"Through Salient's efforts and expertise, our joint venture outpatient surgery center has been transformed from a concept, mired in competing interests and unanticipated pitfalls, into a reality. Salient's rich experience in medical operations and management has proven ideally suited to putting our project on task, and I would highly recommend this group to any spine surgeons contemplating a similar venture."
